Professor W. Geoff Gjertson recently took part in a panel discussion and book release event for Thinking While Doing: Explorations in Educational Design/Build.

The Lafayette Strong Pavilion, a gridshell project designed and built by Master of Architecture students on Lafayette's Camellia Boulevard, is featured on the cover of this new book.

The book's author, Stephen Verderber, is a Professor of Architecture at the University of Toronto. Both Verderber and Gjertson were part of an interdisciplinary international team researching and/or participating in the construction of gridshell projects designed and built by students. Thinking While Doing "provides the reader with insight into the design and construction process and the way in which the design/build approach informs the university-level learning experience, while simultaneously providing a detailed account of an evolving architectural/structural type."

Prof. Gjertson participated in the panel discussion with other team members at Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia on September 20th. He discussed the Lafayette Strong Pavilion in terms of the challenges and lessons learned relative to students designed and built complex, timber gridshells.
