UL SoAD Graduate Student David Allen is the University of Louisiana at Lafayette’s Overall Outstanding Master’s Graduate

UL SoAD Graduate Architecture Student David Allen has been named the overall Fall 2020 UL Alumni Association Outstanding Masters Graduate.

David was selected as the top recipient from five finalists for the award and will be recognized during a Fall 2020 Commencement ceremony for the Graduate School at Cajun Field at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 9th. 

David has been a big part of the UL School of Architecture and Design since beginning his Architectural education in 2015.  He is a graduate teaching assistant, mentors first-year design students in the SoAD, and is an active, productive member of several student organizations and committees within the SoAD. David is a member of the UL Lafayette chapters of the National Organization for Minority Architect Students, the Black Male Leadership Association, serving as its scholarship chair; and Tau Sigma Delta, a scholastic honor society. His incredible work ethic and incredibly passionate engagement in the classroom is know to everyone and evidenced by his many accomplishments, which include him being named as the recipient of the 2018-2019 Dean's Scholar Award, a recipient of the Edward C. Mathes Endowed Superior Graduate Student Scholarship, and the American Institute of Architects South Louisiana Endowed Scholarship. 

David’s final architectural thesis project, titled “ReCONSTRUCT the CULTURE: A Cultural Center for the Community” was focused on creating a sequence of spaces that encourage collaborative community engagement, combined with programs that thrive on mentorship relationships and personal growth. David is graduating this Fall with his Masters in Architecture and plans to pursue architectural design opportunities at firms in Chicago, Dallas, Denver or San Diego.
