The UL Lafayette School of Architecture and its educational design/build program, the Building Institute will conduct tours of the homes designed and built by its students from 2009-2019 on Friday, November 15, 2019 from noon until 6pm. The tours will begin with the BeauSoleil Home, commemorating the ten year anniversary of the 2009 Solar Decathlon, and winning the Market Viability and People’s Choice awards. The tour will continue with the 2011 EVENThouse, the 2012 NEXThouse, the 2014 COURhouse, and the recently completed 1020house (house built with 10’ and 20’ shipping containers.) Students and faculty will lead the tours and visitors will learn about passive and active solar energy, energy-efficiency, sustainable design, and living in a small footprint. Tickets are $10 for students and alumni who worked on the homes and $25 for the public and include tour vans, drivers, and tour guides for the 5-6 hour program visiting the interior and exterior of five homes and driving by two more Habitat for Humanity homes designed by the students. Tickets must be purchased by Wednesday, November 13 by 10pm. No tickets will be sold at the door. Visitors must use the tour vans and may not drive their own vehicles to the houses due to parking limitations.

UL Lafayette thanks the owners of the EVENThouse, NEXThouse, and COURhouse for opening their homes for the tours. These homes have all served as extremely valuable lessons in sustainable design and construction for generations of students. The tours will benefit the UL Lafayette American Institute of Architecture Students. The tours provides 5 Continuing Education Learning Units in Health Safety and Welfare for Architects and approved allied professions. Please contact W. Geoff Gjertson at gjertson@louisiana.edu for any questions.
